Embracing Your Winter Arc: Gratitude in Dating

Hey ladies! Have y’all heard about this “Winter Arc” thing taking over the internet? I only just tuned in myself when my girl, Kimberly Smith, did her own Godly Winter Arc edition—and let me tell you, I was here for it! Inspired by her deep, reflective energy, I thought, “Why not do a Winter Arc for my dating girlies?” Let’s use this season to enrich our dating journeys by reflecting, growing, and stepping into new, joy-filled experiences—even as the days get colder and darker.

So, what’s a Winter Arc exactly?

A Winter Arc is about leveling up your personal story during the colder months, using this time to face any struggles or challenges, and coming out with a fresh perspective and renewed energy. The idea is that by the first quarter of the year, you’ve done the inner work to set yourself up for success. And since dating has its ups and downs, we will use this arc to keep you fully tapped into your journey with love and joy, no matter how chilly it gets.

Here’s how our Winter Arc will flow from November to February:

  • November: Gratitude in Dating – Reflecting on the Journey So Far

  • December: Warming Up to New Beginnings – Setting Intentions and Building Confidence

  • January: New Year, New Connections – Putting Yourself Out There

  • February: Romantic Reflections – Embracing Romance and Intimacy

November: Gratitude in Dating – Reflecting on the Journey So Far

Let me share a quick story with you. Just a couple of days ago, my husband Ben injured his foot and needed a lot of support. Now, usually, he’s the one looking out for me, making sure I’m comfortable and stress-free. But this time, the tables turned, and I had to step in and hold things down. I was cooking his favorite meals, icing his foot every hour, and taking care of anything he needed. What really struck me was how grateful he was for even the smallest things I did. I could feel how much it meant to him, which made me appreciate those moments even more.

So, what does this have to do with dating? Well, let’s be real—dating can be frustrating, exhausting, and sometimes downright disappointing. But even in those challenging moments, we can find things to be grateful for. Gratitude has the power to shift our mindset, helping us see the silver linings and reminding us of the good stuff, no matter what.

For this month, I want us to lean into gratitude and take a look at what we’ve learned, grown from, or even just enjoyed in our dating journey. Here’s how we can start bringing gratitude into dating this month:

  1. After each date, note one thing you liked: After every date, jot down at least one thing you appreciated about the experience. Whether it was the ambiance, a shared funny story, or the courage it took to go, there’s always something worth noticing.

  1. Send a compliment with no strings attached: Send a quick message to someone you’re chatting with, letting them know one thing you genuinely appreciate about them. No strings attached. Just an expression of gratitude.

  1. Daily gratitude journaling: Each day, write down one thing you’re grateful for in yourself, in your dating journey, or even in past experiences. It’s all a part of your growth. (Glow, sis!)

  1. Show some love to your cheerleaders: Shout out to a friend who’s been holding you down and cheering you on through this dating rollercoaster. Give her the flowers she deserves!

  1. Celebrate your unique qualities: List everything you bring to the dating journey. What makes you stand out? Remind yourself of all the ways you shine, sis!
